Road Trip Music Ideas

While we have a pretty good live music scene around here, sometimes ya just gotta hit the road. Here are some cool things happening around us.. Zydeco Festival in Memphis this weekend. Fri & Sat (5pm - 5am) Some of the really cool folks showing up are Roy Carrier, J. Paul Jr, Terrance Simien & Keith Franks. Fun stuff - even if it is Beale Street. The cool thing is, one price gets you in all the clubs so you can wander club to club to find just the band you want to hear. Also in Memphis on the 24th (Sat) Guy Clark at the Gibson Music Showcase. For something a little different check out the Folk Alliance International Music & Dance Festival at the Cook Convention Center. There will be a couple of thousand musicians, writers and industry insiders in town this week and opens to the public Saturday night with The Roches, a sister act that got their break as back up singers to Paul Simon in the 70s. When they finish, the music kicks off on 15 different stages and 4 dance rooms with live bands. The list of artists is wayyy long but some highlights are- folk revivalist Sid Selvidge, electric blues of Otis Taylor, Bluegrassers Uncle Monk and more. Artists representing Folk, Roots, Celtic, Tex Mex, Country, Blues, Bluegrass, Klezmer, World, Aboriginal, Gospel, Spoken Word, Gypsy, Cajun, Americans, Nordic...etc... That is an awesomely cool representation, don't ya think?
Finally, tickets go on sale this weekend for Bonnaroo Music & Art Festival held in the beautiful TN Walking Horse country area (Manchester, TN) Jun 14 - 17. The lineup this year is WOW: The Police, Tool, Widespread Panic (of course), White Stripes, Ben Harper, String Cheese Incident, Gov't Mule, Ziggy Marley, Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show, North Mississippi Allstarts, Lily Allen, Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys, Junior Brown, T-Bone Burnett, Mavis Staples, Rodrigo y Gabriela, James Blood Ulmer and more.
So, this has nothing to do with KABF other than KABF is the only station that plays this same variety of music. Yes, we do have to, occasionally, leave the Natural State to see some really great musical events. Sometimes, the grass is greener....

PLEDGE DRIVE DRIBBLE

Yea, yea, yea it is pledge drive time again. Comes around faster than grey hairs these days. It is a necessary thing at KABF, without it we would not be here.
Premiums - we use them to entice you to pledge. Many folks do not care if they get a premium or not - they pledge anyway. However, for those of you that have been promised pledges, paid and did not get them -- well you have a right to be pissed. If you paid and were not given a premium from Blues House Party - contact Larry or myself - we will make sure you get your premium. There is a disconnect between paid and us knowing to mail out premiums. Larry and I are working on a plan to remedy that. We will unveil it later... So get out your checkbook, credit card or cash (please do not mail cash to KABF ever!!). We need it and we appreciate it.

Update on Tinariwen's new album

The extraordinary Malian band, Tinariwen are back with a new album which is a tour de force. Aman Iman (Water Is Life) is currently available in the UK & France. The disc is slated for release in the U.S. in March via the World Village label. You can preview/sample 4 songs from their new album @ tinariwen.com/media.php. Aman Iman is simply amazing and spectacular. In my opinion, this album is destined to become a classic. Regards, Clyde (Collage co-host).
